Hi and welcome
Hi,
Welcome to Heart In Mind’s blog.
On here, I will be sharing some lessons I’ve learned and am continuing to learn as a mental health therapist. Moreover, I’ll be offering some of my professional and personal reflections on current, as well as historical events. I believe that reflecting on all of these things is important when addressing the mental health struggles because our individual issues are inevitably intertwined with larger, systemic issues.
My belief is rooted in the fact that change on the individual level can only take us so far. Without also addressing stressors on an environmental/systemic level, our healing journey can only go so far. In my training as a therapist, this concept is often referred to as the “person-in-environment” perspective.
The idea that our healing journey can only go so far without also addressing environmental/systemic stressors may sound discouraging. After all, so many of us have probably heard something along the lines of, “we cannot control what happens; we can only control how we respond.”
Thus, for now, I’d like to share some sentiments that I often share with my clients when they are feeling discouraged by realities that are unjust and do not make sense. I’ll speak to some of these realities in future posts.
Slow down when possible; it’s the counterpart to rushing which is what is often forced upon us during traumatic moments.
Oftentimes, things do not happen for a reason.
Everything is forever changing; much of life is impermanent and thus, your pain and suffering must/will pass.
Until next time,
Gina
